Isabel Macias presents Weavers of Mampujan
Year 2000. A peasant town in the mountains in Colombia is accused of collaborating with a guerrilla group. Paramilitaries carry out massacres and cause a massive displacement of hundreds of families. A group of women called “Weavers of Mampujan” makes tapestries for trauma therapy, memory reconstruction, and commitment to peace.
Do we need to show more images of horror?
Is there any possibility of remaining sensitive after being bombarded with all that violence in so many ways?

I prefer to believe tenderness is a powerful strength and that we become better people by looking lovingly at reparation acts.
Mampuján was the scenario of the confrontation between the guerrilla and paramilitary forces. 245 families were brought under violence and expelled overnight. Years passed before they returned home.
Cutting, crying, sewing, and telling, were the way the Weavers of Mampuján were able to get over those awful experiences. Their tapestries are the evidence of what they lived through and survived.
This short film is a recreation of the original tapestries. The same way tales pass from mouth to mouth we retell them photo by photo and frame by frame, hoping we will be able to embroider a world worth living in.
